Cassidy Zahar

Meet Me- Cassidy Zahar, Singer/Songwriter

Hi!

I'm Cassidy Zahar, a young, upcoming performer who plays folk, blues and alternative music, though I love all genres. I am 19 years old, and live near the small town of Bellis, Alberta although I currently live in Edmonton Alberta while I attend University. I am currently in my 2nd year of studying a Bachelor's Degree in Jazz and Contemporary Popular Music with a major in Performance. I have been singing and playing the guitar since I was nine years old. Music is a huge part of my life... it's what I live for!

I love to entertain people! I enjoy giving back to my community, especially by volunteering to sing at local nursing homes and auxiliaries, as well as children's charities, and fundraisers.
A few of my past music engagments include winning the junior division at Kalyna Idol in 2008, singing the National Anthem at the Tim Horton's Roar of the Rings curling trials in 2009, winning the junior division at the Norther Star Talent Search competition at Capital Ex in 2010, performing at the Bashaw Festival of Stars in May of 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015, and placing a very close 2nd in the Global Country Talent Search in May of 2012. Due to the closeness of the competition, I was invited to go down to Nashville in the spring of 2013. We toured Nashville, attended the Grand Ol' Opry, visited the Country Music Hall of Fame and Studio B and I had the amazing opportunity to compete in the North American Country Music Assosiations Int'l competition (NACMAI).

I won all three categories I was entered in which included: International Female Vocalist of the Year, International Female Entertainer of the Year and International Video of the Year.
In summer of 2013 I also competed at the Panoka Stampede, and won second place where I was thrilled to received a custom made Gilmore guitar, (curtesy of Mr. David Gilmore of Red Deer Alberta).
In August of 2013, I competed on the ATB Homegrown Talent Stage at Camrose's Big Valley Jamboree where I made it into the top ten finale. I also took part in the same competition again in summer of 2014 and 2015 where I placed in the top 5 every year, out of well over three hundred competitors each time.

In the falls of 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017 I was honoured to be nominated by the ACMA for the Fan's Choice Award as well as Female Artist of the Year along-side big names such as Brett Kissel, Bobby Wills, Krysta Scoggins, Alee, and Tenille.
In November 2014, I was chosen through a contest held by the CFCW radio station to sing our National Anthem at the Canadian Finals Rodeo which took place in Rexal Place, Edmonton.

My latest musical endeavours lead me to join a band in September of 2015. Known as 'The King Size Players' based out of Elk Point, AB, and we played the old time rock and roll, blues, southern rock, and country classics. I loved playing with such talented students my own age and it opened up a lot of doors for me such as playing new and different genres of music and playing venues with musicians my age! We played all over Alberta, at Weddings, Anniversaries, Corporate Events, Parties and Community Functions! Sadly we had to split up when I moved to Edmonton for higher schooling.
In January of 2016 I was nominated by the ACMA's (Alberta Country Music Awards), under the category of 'Fan's Choice,' alongside names such as Brett Kissel, Domino, and Alee.
In March, I opened for country singer Tim Hus in Radway Alberta, and in June 2016 I opened for Brett Kissel at his Hometown Take Over Concert in St. Paul Alberta!

When I'm not entertaining or sharing my gift of music, I enjoy just being a regular teenager. I love reading, watching movies, being with friends and family, and spending time outdoors on our farm, just being a typical farm kid. Teaching my music and guitar students is another major highlight. Being a music teacher is such a rewarding and amazing experience!

I have recorded a professional CD entitled "Cassidy Zahar, This Is Me", recorded by my good friend Ky Babyn in the year of 2011. I really enjoyed the recording process, as it was a lot of fun and also a great learning experience for me. In summer of 2016 I released my new and updated CD, "Tide!"
CD's currently sell for $20 each. We also recently had "Cassidy Zahar Music" T-shirts created! They are a new item, and sell for $25 each :)
